Underfloor Heating Bristol & North Somerset

Summit Climate Solutions designs and installs underfloor heating systems for homes across Bristol and North Somerset. Whether you’re planning a new build, a ground floor extension or a full renovation, we’ll specify and install the right system for your project — working neatly alongside other trades and finishing the job properly.

Systems we install

Wet Underfloor Heating (Hydronic) Water-based pipework laid beneath the floor, connected to your boiler or heat pump. The most efficient long-term solution for whole-house or large-area installations. Particularly well matched with air source heat pumps, which operate efficiently at the lower flow temperatures UFH requires.

Electric Underfloor Heating (Mat System) Thin electric heating mats installed under tiles or stone. Best suited to single rooms such as bathrooms, kitchens and extensions where retrofitting wet pipework isn’t practical. Lower installation cost, higher running costs than wet systems.

Screed Systems Wet pipework encased in a flow screed, providing excellent thermal mass and heat distribution. Ideal for ground floors and extensions where build-up depth allows.

Low-Profile Retrofit Systems Slim-profile wet systems designed for retrofitting into existing rooms with minimal floor height increase. A practical solution where a full screed isn’t possible.

Why underfloor heating works well with heat pumps

Underfloor heating and air source heat pumps are a natural pairing. Heat pumps operate most efficiently at lower flow temperatures — typically 35–45°C — and underfloor heating is designed to work at exactly those temperatures. A radiator system needs higher flow temperatures to heat a room effectively, which reduces heat pump efficiency. UFH removes that constraint entirely, allowing the heat pump to run at its most efficient operating point year-round.

If you’re considering a heat pump installation, adding or retrofitting underfloor heating at the same time is worth planning at survey stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is underfloor heating suitable for my property? Wet underfloor heating works best in new builds, extensions and full renovations where floor build-up isn’t an issue. Retrofit is possible in existing rooms using low-profile systems. We’ll confirm suitability at survey stage.

Can underfloor heating work with my existing boiler? Yes, wet underfloor heating can be connected to a standard gas boiler. It works particularly well with heat pumps, which are well matched to the lower flow temperatures UFH requires.

How warm does underfloor heating get? UFH warms the floor surface to around 27–29°C, which heats the room evenly from the ground up. It feels different to radiators — no hot spots or cold draughts — and is generally considered more comfortable.

How long does installation take? This depends on the size of the area and the system type. A single-room electric mat system can be installed in a day. A whole-ground-floor wet system typically takes two to three days, not including screed curing time.

Can I control underfloor heating by room? Yes. Wet systems use a manifold with individual zone valves for each room or area, each controlled independently by a room thermostat or smart control.

Do you cover my area? We cover Bristol and North Somerset including Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Nailsea, Portishead, Yatton, Congresbury, Backwell, Long Ashton, Banwell, Burnham-on-Sea and Bath.
